Experiments with receiving ADS-B (Flightradar signals)
The best antenna type proved to be “1/4-wave ground plane”, which is the one wire with 4 or more beans pointing downwards, but you can receive this on almost anything if it has the right length. The fish can was funny but not very good as an antenna.
For best results, find an on-line calculator and get the dimensions exactly right.
Also note that it is very important to have line of sight view of the planes, I could only see one side of the sky due to receiving on a balcony.
